Training

NILTU, O provides standardized in class training for all new caregivers to orient them to their new roles and responsibilities as a caregiver. 

NITLU,O caregivers are also invited to attend monthly gatherings to build relationships and supports, enjoy a catered meal together and to learn about a variety of parenting and related topics presented by knowledgeable presenters. Child-minding is provided and transportation - if needed. Examples of topics covered include:

  • understanding Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

  • understanding nutrition and making healthy food choices

  • understanding the impact of past trauma on child development

  • learning how to manage challenging child/youth behaviors

  • understanding the role of the caregiver and the AOPSI standards for children in care

In addition to our monthly training events NILTU,O supports our caregivers to attend various training, workshops and events to promote their knowledge base and confidence in providing high quality care to our children.
